How does a small company compete against the big name, big budgeted golf equipment manufacturers?

The answer is “neighborhood marketing.” Just like Barack Obama and John McCain taking their campaign fight locally to the people in order to win votes “one by one”, Nicklaus Golf Equipment knew from its research that an “up-close” and “in-person approach to buying clubs would be the best way to introduce golfers to its clubs and impact their buying decision. The strategy was if NGE could put a club in each golfers hand at the store level or point of purchase, then the customer would get to experience first hand the quality feel and performance...allowing the product to sell itself. Nicklaus Golf was confident its clubs would meet or out-perform the best in big name club manufacturers. Another key strategy was to launch a publicity campaign about the unusual shape and story behind these new clubs with patented technology in order to attract attention of the press for getting good media coverage to offset the huge ad budgets of its competitors.

The Total Solution: Avanti Tees-Up a Media, Marketing / PR Campaign

To develop marketing and public relations around this strategy meant coming up with a campaign that gave golfers and the press enough information to get them to attend a “Demo Day” out on the range to try the new line of clubs.

Additionally, Nicklaus Golf needed Media, PR and Marketing materials for its golf tradeshows, press events and account executives. Avanti wrote and produced a turn-key solution with a campaign that included the following components:

  • A 5-Minute Tradeshow Continuous DVD Loop showcasing the new line of Nicklaus Golf Clubs wrapped within the Nicklaus legend of achievement.
  • Avanti developed an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) for the golf writers and news press covering the PGA shows.
  • A DVD with Jack Nicklaus philosophy how best to play the game of golf.
  • A promo video on each of the new club designs with high definition 3-D animation showing the clubs unique design features and benefits.
  • :30 second TV Commercials with customizable “Demo Days” for each store to advertise attending a “Demo Day” to try the clubs.
  • In-Store 2-minute continuous loop for video screens within the retail golf stores.
  • Web Versions of each of the DVD’s created above.

From coast to coast, The Palm Restaurant is famous for their prime steaks and huge lobsters. But it takes more than just good steaks and big portions to make a great steakhouse. This premier restaurant is also renowned for its use of fresh ingredients, great service and upbeat crowds. Avanti Visual Communications was engaged to create training videos unlike any others. Both The Palm’s trainers and the Avanti team found training videos used by other large chain restaurants boring. So Avanti set out to create a series of videos that were upbeat and fun. “Heart of the House” featured various seasoned Palm personnel as stars of the show. Incorporating up-beat music, the video broke the restaurant’s daily kitchen processes down into music video-like acts of food selection, storage and preparation and explained the responsibilities of various kitchen staff positions. Some of the segments contained subtitles, alternating between spoken English with Spanish subtitles and spoken Spanish with English subtitles, to appeal to both English and Spanish speaking new hires.

FPL Group is a leader in alternative energy sources. With the latest push for more renewable sources of clean energy, FPL was mandated to build and accelerate their nuclear energy program after some thirty years of stagnant growth. To ramp up their recruitment efforts to staff such efforts, they turned to Avanti for help. Our objective was to create a catchy media message that appealed to highly educated men and women 18-25 years old who were either graduating college or were in the armed forces and had to choose which company they wanted to work for. FPL Group needed a visual communications tool they could use at recruitment events and play on a big screen as their company pitch as well as be used on-line and as a collateral piece to hand out to prospective job candidates. Avanti met the challenge by developing creative that revolved around a college student receiving a magical box from a recruitment counselor. Upon opening the box, a whole new world of opportunity was revealed as the prospective recruit is exposed to an interactive molecule that when activated, describes the unique benefits and opportunities with FPL. In addition to the video presentation, we authored an interactive CD-ROM which included the video, links to the FPL web site, and PDF document. Prospective recruits keep this CD to further explore the FPL web site, download an application or request a recruiter to call them.
